We wrap up our Christmas Food History Special with the iconic musical White Christmas (starring Bing Crosby), released in October 1954. This charming holiday musical, featuring two performances of the Oscar-winning song "White Christmas," is a tribute to the musical genius of prolific songwriter Irving Berlin, who composed all the music for this movie.
We see some food, but mainly lots of '50s cocktails in this musical, and some gorgeous retro dance clubs where men in suits wine and dine women in fancy taffeta ballgowns.

"Snow, snow, snow, snow..."
I love the classic films of the 1940s and 50s...great actors, great plots, and great music, from an era when a lady kissing a gentleman (who was not her husband, imagine that) on-screen was still considered quite shocking. Can movie viewers today be shocked by anything anymore? But I digress.
Christmas in Connecticut is a sweet, silly little film that one film blogger has called "a seasonal confection." Goofy and adorable, the plot is entirely predictable and lots of fun. The main character, Elizabeth Lane, is a food writer who can't cook! I love this angle, especially on days when I feel like my own cooking is a little sub-par. Elizabeth is bailed out by her charming "Uncle Felix," who saves the day in more ways than one, and who cooks up delicious dinners for her and her gang at the farm during the Christmas holidays.
